TOP DESTINATIONS TO TOUR UGANDA WITH 4×4

Murchison Falls Park

A 4×4 tour to Murchison Falls National Park is one of Uganda’s most popular safari adventures, with the drive taking approximately 5 to 6 hours from Kampala via Masindi. Most of the journey is on well-maintained tarmac roads, while the park’s game tracks are dirt roads that can become muddy after rainfall. Visitors exploring the northern sector of the park will also use the Paraa Ferry to cross the Nile, making for a unique safari experience. A reliable 4×4 vehicle is highly recommended as it provides better traction, higher ground clearance, and greater comfort when navigating wildlife tracks and uneven roads throughout the park

Kidepo Valley Park

self drive to Kidepo valleyKidepo Valley National Park is Uganda’s most remote national park, located in the country’s far northeast and approximately 10 to 12 hours’ drive from Kampala. Although much of the route is now paved, sections near the park and within the reserve remain rough and can be challenging during the rainy season. There are no ferry crossings along this route, but the long distance and isolated terrain make a dependable 4×4 vehicle essential. A four-wheel-drive offers greater stability, comfort, and reliability for this unforgettable off-the-beaten-path safari destination.

Lake Mburo National Park

driving to Lake mburo parkLocated about 240 kilometres west of Kampala, Lake Mburo National Park can be reached in approximately 3½ to 4 hours via the Kampala–Masaka–Mbarara highway. The main highway is fully paved, while the roads inside the park are murram tracks that may become slippery after rain. There are no ferry crossings required to access the park. A 4×4 vehicle is recommended for exploring the park comfortably, particularly if you plan to enjoy game drives, visit remote viewpoints, or travel during the wet season.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Uganda car rental with a driverQueen Elizabeth National Park lies approximately 6 to 7 hours from Kampala, with the journey following paved highways through Mbarara before connecting to the park. Once inside, visitors encounter extensive network of dirt game tracks that can become rough or muddy depending on the season. There are no ferry crossings needed to reach the park by road. A 4×4 vehicle is the ideal choice for navigating wildlife viewing circuits, crater lake areas, and remote sections of the park while ensuring a safe and comfortable safari experience

Bwindi National Park

Depending on which sector you are visiting, the drive from Kampala typically takes 8 to 10 hours. While most of the route follows tarmac roads, the final stretches leading to Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija, or Nkuringo involve steep, winding mountain roads that can become slippery after heavy rain. No ferry crossings are required. A 4×4 vehicle is strongly recommended to handle the challenging terrain safely and comfortably, particularly during the rainy seasons
