UAE & Uganda Launch 90-Day Visa-Free Travel for Diplomats

In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have officially activated a 90-day visa-free travel agreement for specific passport holders. Effective February 10, 2026, this policy streamlines travel between the two nations, fostering deeper diplomatic and economic cooperation.

Key Details of the Agreement

The agreement, which was initially signed in May 2025, is now fully operational following ratification by both governments. Here is how the waiver applies to different travelers:

• For UAE Nationals: Holders of diplomatic, special, ordinary, and service passports are now exempt from visa requirements when entering Uganda. They are permitted to stay for up to 90 days.

• For Ugandan Nationals: The visa-free entry into the UAE applies strictly to holders of diplomatic and service passports. Eligible Ugandans can stay in the UAE for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

• Standard Procedures: While the visa requirement is waived for these categories, travelers must still present a valid passport (with at least six months’ validity) and, in some cases, proof of onward or return travel.

Important Note for Ordinary Ugandan Passport Holders

It is important to clarify that ordinary Ugandan passport holders are not included in this current waiver. Ugandans traveling to the UAE for tourism or business on a standard passport must still follow the routine visa application process.
