Kampala, Uganda – July 1, 2026 – Uganda has secured a €110.5 million (approximately US$126 million) financing agreement with the Ugandan subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank to fund the construction of a major road in the country’s northeastern Karamoja sub-region. The project is expected to transform transportation, encourage tourism, stimulate trade, and support growing investments in one of Uganda’s most resource-rich areas.
The announcement, made by Uganda’s Ministry of Finance, marks another significant milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the country’s transport infrastructure and connect previously underserved regions with the rest of Uganda and neighboring East African markets.

The new road will stretch approximately 115.8 kilometres through Karamoja, a region that has historically faced limited road infrastructure due to its remote location and challenging terrain.
