The Pearl of Africa, Seen From 10,000 Feet

Most visitors experience Uganda’s beauty at ground level — through a 4×4 windshield or the underbrush of a rainforest trail. Skydiving in Uganda flips that entirely. For a few unforgettable minutes, you’re suspended above Lake Victoria’s island-studded shoreline, the red-earth roads of Kampala’s outskirts, and a patchwork of banana plantations and forest stretching to the horizon — before the parachute opens and the adrenaline gives way to one of the most peaceful views in the country.

It’s not why most people fly to Uganda. But for adventure travelers looking to pair gorilla trekking or a Nile rafting trip with something genuinely adrenaline-fueled, it’s an increasingly popular addition — and a rare way to see the country whole.

Why Add Skydiving to Your Uganda Trip

  • Two tandem skydivers jump from a small plane into clear blue sky, airplane wing reading'SKYDIVE' in the background.

A view nothing else gives you. Game drives and forest treks show you Uganda’s wildlife up close; skydiving shows you the whole landscape at once — Lake Victoria, the Kampala skyline, and the green sprawl of central Uganda laid out below you.

  • No experience necessary. Tandem jumps pair you with a certified instructor who handles the technical side entirely — you simply enjoy the fall and the flight.
  • A genuine rarity in East Africa. Skydiving is only offered in a handful of African countries. Doing it in Uganda, alongside gorilla trekking and Nile rafting, gives your trip a bragging-rights adventure most safari itineraries never touch.
  • Pairs naturally with Jinja’s adventure scene. If you’re already in Uganda for white-water rafting or bungee jumping over the Nile, adding a skydive rounds out an adrenaline-focused itinerary.
  • Year-round availability. Jumps run throughout the year, weather permitting, so it’s easy to slot into most travel schedules.

What to Expect on the Day

Tandem skydiving pair in free fall: passenger in an orange top with red goggles, instructor behind, both in harness against a blue sky.

Arrival and briefing. You’ll check in at the airfield, complete registration and waiver paperwork, and receive a safety briefing covering body position, landing technique, and what to expect in freefall.

Gear-up. Your tandem instructor fits your harness and connects it to their own rig — the same setup used in tandem skydiving worldwide, refined over decades into one of the safer ways to experience freefall.

The flight up. A short aircraft (or helicopter, depending on the operator) ride climbs to altitude, giving you a preview of the landscape before the door opens.

Freefall. Roughly 30 to 60 seconds of freefall at speeds well over 100 mph — widely described by first-timers as feeling more like flying than falling.

The canopy ride. Once the parachute deploys, the experience shifts entirely: a slow, quiet glide back to earth with sweeping views of Lake Victoria and the surrounding countryside, with some operators allowing you to help steer.

Landing and certificate. Most operators offer optional photo and video packages capturing the whole experience, plus a certificate to mark your jump.

Where to Jump

Two people paragliding under open parachutes in a blue sky, one with a blue-purple canopy on the left and a pink canopy on the right.

Kajjansi Airfield (near Kampala/Entebbe) is Uganda’s primary fixed-wing skydiving location, offering tandem jumps from 10,000 or 14,000 feet year-round, weather permitting.

Busiika (Extreme Adventure Park) offers a helicopter skydiving experience — a scenic helicopter ascent followed by the jump itself, adding an extra layer to the adventure. This option typically runs on a more limited schedule (a couple of weekends per month), so advance booking matters more here.

Both are within easy reach of Kampala and Entebbe, making skydiving a realistic half-day addition near the start or end of a Uganda itinerary, rather than a detour deep into the countryside.

Combine It With

Skydiving fits naturally alongside Uganda’s other adrenaline activities and is easiest to arrange as a add-on near Kampala or Entebbe at the start or end of your trip:

Things to do in Uganda - rafting on Nile

  • White-Water Rafting & Bungee Jumping on the Nile in Jinja
  • Quad Biking along the riverbanks near Jinja
  • A Kampala City Tour, if you’re based near the capital before or after your safari
  • Entebbe Botanical Gardens & Mabamba Swamp Birding, for a gentler pairing before an adrenaline-heavy day

Good to Know Before You Book

  • Weather matters. Skydiving is entirely weather-dependent, and jumps can be rescheduled at short notice for safety. Building a buffer day into your itinerary is wise, especially if this is a highlight of your trip.
  • No prior experience required, but come mentally prepared — freefall is intense, even for those who’ve researched it thoroughly beforehand.
  • Photo and video packages are usually optional add-ons rather than included by default — worth confirming if you want footage of the jump.
  • Confirm age and weight requirements directly when booking, as these vary between operators.
